미국 곳곳에서 '경찰 흑인 총격 살해' 규탄시위가 이어지다

미국 텍사스 주 댈러스에서 시위 도중 경관 피격사건이 발생한 지 하루 만인 8일(현지시간)에도 미국 전역에서 경찰의 흑인총격 살해를 규탄하는 집회가 이어졌다.

동시에 경찰관 5명의 목숨을 앗아간 전날 총격 사건에 대한 비판과 함께 폭력이 아닌 평화적인 방식으로 뜻을 전달해야 한다는 목소리도 나오고 있다.

AP통신 등에 따르면 이날 미국 주요 도시의 거리에 수천 명의 시위대가 몰려 나와 며칠 전루이지애나와 미네소타 주에서 발생한 경찰의 흑인 살해에 항의했다.

이날 조지아 주 애틀랜타에서는 시민 수천 명이 도심의 거리에서 "손들었으니, 쏘지 마"(Hands up, don't shoot), "정의 없이 평화 없다"(No justice, no peace) 등의 구호를 외치며 행진했다.

캘리포니아 주 로스앤젤레스에서는 래퍼 스눕독과 더게임이 로스앤젤레스 경찰청을 향해 평화행진을 이끌었다.

시위대는 경찰청에서 시장과 경찰청장을 만나 소수인종 커뮤니티와 당국의 관계 개선을 촉구했다.

콜로라도 주 덴버에서는 '흑인의 생명도 소중하다'(Black Lives Matter) 운동 지지자들이 경찰의 과잉대응에 항의하는 의미에서 내주 화요일까지 135시간 연좌 농성을 벌이고 있다.

이밖에도 뉴욕과 워싱턴 D.C., 루이지애나, 일리노이 등에서도 수백 명에서 수천 명이 거리로 나와 잇단 경찰관의 흑인 총격 살해를 비난했다.

애리조나 주 피닉스에서는 1천 명의 시위대가 구호를 외치며 고속도로로 진입하려 하자 경찰이 최루가스를 분사하기도 했다.

그러나 집회 대부분은 큰 충돌 없이 평화롭게 진행됐다.

약 2천 명이 몰린 샌프란시스코 집회에서는 주최자가 "우리의 분노를 조절해야 한다. 사랑이 증오를 이긴다"며 참가자들에 평화 집회를 촉구했다.

시위대 일부는 사법기관의 인종차별에 대한 비판과 항의를 이어가면서도 전날 경관 살해로까지 이어진 폭력은 자제해야 한다고 주장했다.

'흑인의 생명도 소중하다' 운동을 이끈 일간 뉴욕데일리뉴스 칼럼니스트 션 킹은 트위터를 통해 경찰의 무자비함이 싫은 것이지, 경찰이 싫은 것은 아니라며 "폭력은 어떤 것이든 옳지 않다"고 말했다.

'미디어정의센터'의 말키어 시릴도 "우리 운동은 존엄, 정의, 자유를 옹호하는 것이지 경찰관 살해까지 지지하는 것은 아니다"라고 강조했다.

경관의 흑인 총격살해 이후 경찰 개혁을 촉구했던 버락 오바마 미국 대통령도 유럽 방문일정을 단축하고 미국으로 돌아와 경찰 저격 사건 발생한 댈러스를 방문할 예정이다.

오바마 대통령은 앞서 사법기관 내 인종 편견을 규탄하면서 "'흑인의 목숨이 소중하다'는 것은 '경관의 목숨(Blue lives)은 소중하지 않다'는 의미가 아니다"라고 강조했다.
