Ji-na: What’s your business here?

Sang-min: You always did like to get right to the point. Well… I asked you here because… Remember that clock I bought from Europe last year? You took the pendulum. I’d like it back.
Ji-na: What? I didn’t take anything!
Sang-min: Phew… I see you haven’t changed a dit.

진아: 용건이 뭐야?
말해.
상민: 넌 역시… 그렇게 니 칭찬을 해도 말이 길어진다 싶으면 싫어하는구나. 그래, 뭐, 그건 그렇고… 내가 작년에 유럽가서 사온 거, 벽에 걸려있던 시계 말이야. 그 안에 시계추, 그거 니가 가져갔거든? 그것 좀 돌려 줄래?
진아: 그게 뭔데 내가 뭘 언제 가져가!
상민: 아휴… 여전하구나, 그 버릇.

‘용건’은 영어로(matter of) business, affairs, things to do등이며, ‘급한 용건’일 경우에는 business 앞에 urgent 혹은 pressing을 붙이면 된다. “용건이 뭐야?”는 What’s your business?”, “What do you want?”, What can I do for you?” 또는 “what do you want me for?” 등으로 표현하며, 좀더 정중히 말할 경우 “무슨 용건이신지 여쭤봐도 될까요?” 라는 뜻의 May I ask the nature of your business?” 또는 “May I ask what this is regarding?” 등을 쓸 수 있다.

예) A: What’s your business here, Tom?
(용건이 뭐야, 톰?)
B: I just wanna know when you are free.
(난 그냥 너 언제 짬이 나나 알고 싶어서.)
